computer security

Computer security is a branch of computer technology known as information security as applied to computers and networks. Security for Personalized Web Servers, Small Business Server, Dedicated Server is in demand these days. Everyone wants their data safe and secure.

The basic Security Measures are as -

Choose a secure operating system – If you care about your data, pick an operating system that is secure.
Enable a strong BIOS password – BIOS password locks the hard drive so it can’t simply be removed and reinstalled into a similar machine.
Use a personal firewall on your – Corporate networks protect their Servers and Workstations by configuring a firewall to prevent intruders from hacking back into their systems via the company’s internet connection
Use the NTFS file system – Use the NTFS file system to protect your data from thieves who may try to access your data. FAT and FAT32 File systems don’t support file level security and give hackers a big wide open door to your Computer, Web Server, Small Business Server, Dedicated Server.
Disable the Guest Account – Always double check to make sure the guest account is not enabled. For additional security assign a complex password to the account anyway, and restrict its logon 24×7.
Rename the Administrator Account – Renaming the Administrator account will stop some amateur hackers cold, and will annoy the more determined ones.
Creating a dummy Administrator Account – Another strategy is to create a local account named “Administrator”, then giving that account no privileges and impossible to guess +10 digit complex password.
revent the last logged-in user name from being displayed – When you press Ctrl-Alt-Del, a login dialog box appears which displays the name of the last user who logged in to the computer, and makes it easier to discover a user name that can later be used in a password-guessing attack.
Enable EFS (Encrypting File System) – Be sure to enable encryption on Folders, not just files. All files that are placed in that folder will be encrypted.
Disable the Wifi or communication port.
Backup your data before you leave – Backing up your hard drive before you leave can help you retrieve your data .
Consider using offline storage for transporting sensitive documents.

Make security a habit

People are the weakest link in the security chain. If you care about your data, a healthy dose of paranoia will help keep it safe. Get into the habit of locking your computer up when you’re working with it, or when storing it.

But, with the introduction of Cloud, hosting providers have managed to offer their services at a very low price without compromising on the quality. Shared Cloud is a perfect example of reliability and affordability. Choosing a cloud server, the factors that would usually be a botheration to users can be easily avoided. Factors such as overselling, constant downtimes, reliability, stability, intrusions, hacks etc. are the areas that matters most of any website owners. Since, cloud is made of a cluster of dedicated servers, the data of your website is placed on multiple servers, so incase one of the servers go down, your site starts resolving through another server in the network. Virtually causing zero downtime. Moreover, there are constant improvements being done in the area of Cloud technology. So, we can expect the Cloud to grow even stronger and an affordable option. Presently, features such as scalability and 100% uptime are the aspects that none other hosting solution is capable to offer. Cloud Server is among the newest in the broad collection of networking choices for businesses and individuals. These servers are considered very flexible and allow its users to adapt new changes. In comparison to dedicated servers, these servers are generally considered more proficient and consistent. These servers offer its users ultimate scalability, flexibility and the ability to add or resize servers at will. These servers are usually considered perfect for web hosting. These servers also differ majorly in comparison to traditional virtual private servers.

Web hosting is considered very crucial in having a presence on web. Internet serves as a major medium to promote products and services online. Hence having a strong website presence is becoming very common these days. Hosting a website via Cloud Servers provides its users with superior safety and performance.

In Cloud Hosting, a number of users in a network are linked to various servers. Every user in the network is able to receive data from a range of servers. In this type of web hosting a user does not have to depend on a single server. In simple terminology, Cloud Hosting allows a user to access more than one server at a time. As cloud is made up of a group of dedicated servers, the data is placed on multiple servers. If one of the servers goes down, the website starts resolving via another server in the network.

Using this kind of web hosting comes along with a lot benefits. These servers allow information to effortlessly travel from one server to another, allowing the user’s website to stay active all the time.

Hosting a website through these servers provides the user with the capacity to meet unpredicted surges in web traffic. A user does not have to pay anything extra for the additional bandwidth he/she needs.

Cloud hosting providers bill their users as per their usage. The change from traditional servers to cloud servers is also considered very simple. This type of web hosting allows its user to maintain his/her website in a secure environment without any major hassles that are there with conventional hosting. So if you are seeking to take a new web hosting service that is inexpensive and also provides the same rewards of regular hosting, then you should probably go for cloud server hosting. This type of web hosting is especially designed to suit specific user wants, which can later be revamped.

Few Points On Cloud Server Storage

Cloud storage is online storage system where the data is stored on virtual servers rather than on dedicated servers. The hosting companies have large data centers and there the data of the people are stored and often people also take some storage in lease too. In cloud storage the resources are also virtualized by the data center operators according to the customer requirements and from the storage pool of resources the customers can use the resources according to their requirements.
Often a cloud storage gateway can be used at the office premises of the customer which makes the cloud storage device work as a normal storage device. These gateways are servers where the standard cloud storage APIs are translated into block based data storage protocol or file based storage protocol.
There are various advantages of cloud storage which have made cloud storage extremely popular nowadays. These are:

As a customer of cloud storage you only have to pay for the resources that you are using. You do not have to install any storage devices in your own datacenter or in your office and thus the IT and hosting costs are reduced.

You do not have to take the hassles of maintenance of the storage such as take the backup, do data replication, purchase additional storage devices, as all of these are taken care of by the service provider and you can only concentrate on your business.

However there are some concerns regarding cloud storage too. These include headaches regarding the security of the stored data while you are storing sensitive data in the storage. The performance of the cloud storage might often be lower than general storage. The reliability and the availability of the storage space depends on the availability of the network and also on the precautions taken by the service provider.
